From left, Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Terrance Little, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Marquis Taylor and Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Burton Allen, Sailors assigned to the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), fold a 48-star flag made of parachute silk in 1945 by American POWs in Japan who survived the Bataan Death March, Aug 15, 2026. The flag was flown on the ship as part of a ceremony to commemorate the 81st anniversary of V-J Day. Bataan is currently undergoing regularly scheduled maintenance in the General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia.
