Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer speaks to Sailors from Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in the hospital galley meeting room during his visit to NHCP on Aug. 11, 2026. He spoke about why he reenlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve, tackled the grueling Basic Reconnaissance Course, and continues to serve as a special assistant to the Secretary of War. He then fielded questions from the audience. During his visit, Meyer also visited Sailors at the 31 Area Branch Health Clinic, toured the Intrepid Spirit Center, and then returned to the hospital to meet with a smaller group of Sailors over lunch. Meyer earned the Medal of Honor during the Battle of Ganjgal on Sept. 8, 2009, in Afghanistan's Kunar Province.
