Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer speaks with a small group of Sailors from Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in the hospital galley meeting room during his visit to NHCP on Aug. 11, 2026. The small group atmosphere led to great discussions on leadership and personal accountability. During his visit, Meyer also visited Sailors at the 31 Area Branch Health Clinic, toured the Intrepid Spirit Center, and spoke to a larger group of Sailors where he discussed why he reenlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve, tackled the grueling Basic Reconnaissance Course, and continues to serve as a special assistant to the Secretary of War. Meyer earned the Medal of Honor during the Battle of Ganjgal on Sept. 8, 2009, in Afghanistan's Kunar Province.
