A self-propelled artillery system is captured mid-fire at dusk or dawn, with a bright muzzle flash visible at the end of the elevated barrel. Dense propellant smoke and discharge gases surround the vehicle, partially obscuring the scene. At least one or two personnel are visible near the base of the vehicle on the ground.

U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to C Battery, 1st Battalion, 201st Field Artillery Regiment, West Virginia Army National Guard, fire a howitzer during a nighttime live-fire mission at Exercise Northern Strike 26-2 at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center in Grayling, Michigan, Aug. 10, 2026. The gun crew delivers indirect fires under limited-light conditions, reinforcing the ability to execute fire missions regardless of time of day or visibility. The green appearance of the image results from the use of an Astroscope night vision system used to document the nighttime training.
