Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Fabric Worker and Shipwright Shop (Shop 89) Shipwright Malik Davis assembles scaffolding around USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) to provide safe access for other shipyard trades. For Davis, who has worked in the shipyard environment for 17 years, the intense nature of shipwright work makes absolute trust and coordination with his teammates essential. "I like my crew; there’s a lot of camaraderie, especially doing a job like this where it’s a lot of rigorous activity and you have to flex your muscles and climb," said Davis. "You cannot build a scaffold by yourself. You cannot be a shipwright by yourself. Teamwork is a must when it comes to shipwright."
