Shipwright Mechanic Kenneth Wells aligns scaffolding members during a custom build on the New Hampshire project. An eight-year veteran of the shipyard, Wells entered the trade through the Helper-to-Worker program and worked his way up to a mechanic. "I started from the bottom and now I'm here as a WG-10," said Wells. "The helper-to-worker program focuses entirely on the hands-on trade, allowing you to learn all you can directly from the mechanics. If upper management sees you as a dedicated worker, they will help you and push you to become a mechanic. The best part of this job is being able to make sure everyone is safe so they can go home to their families the same way they came in."
