    Marine Corps Recruiting Command

Rct. Gerald Hart, 22, Platoon 2058, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, sprints to the end of a combat fitness test with two 30-pound ammunition cans July 16, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. The test was specifically designed to evaluate strength, stamina, agility and coordination as well as overall anaerobic capacity. Recruits also sprinted 880 yards and negotiated an agility course made up of combat-related tasks. Hart is from Rockledge, Fla., and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
