    Marine Corps Recruiting Command

Rct. Austin Straub, 19, Platoon 2057, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, crawls during a combat fitness test July 16, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. The test was specifically designed to evaluate strength, stamina, agility and coordination as well as overall anaerobic capacity. Recruits sprinted 880 yards, lifted a 30-pound ammunition can repeatedly for two minutes and negotiated an agility course made up of combat-related tasks. Straub is from Easley, S.C., and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
