NEW YORK HARBOR, New York - Sailors of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) man the rails for a passing review by Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao as part of the International Naval Review (INR) 250 Parade of Sail and Aerial Review 250 in New York, July 4, 2026. Manning the rails is a centuries-old naval tradition in which a ship's crew lines up at regular intervals along the deck. It is one of the highest solemn honors practiced by the United States Navy. For 250 years, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps stood the watch – constant, unabated in mission, faithfully preventing crisis and resolute in defending America’s independence. INR 250 honors the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard’s enduring role on, under, and above the seas. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. Dennis J. Petersen)
