A large tree uprooted by severe storms lies across a recreation area at Copan Lake near Copan, Oklahoma, July 5, 2026.
Independence Day storms brought winds exceeding 90 mph, leaving more than 500 damaged or downed trees throughout the Copan Lake project. Since the storms, Copan Lake staff have worked seven days a week to clear debris, restore damaged areas and safely reopen parks to the public. The recovery effort supports USACE’s natural resources management mission by restoring safe public access to recreation areas. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo by Justin Barnes)
