Marine Corps humanitarian assessment survey team members enter an abandoned bunker adjacent to the World War II battle site Bonnyman's Hill just off of Red Beach Three during Pacific Partnership 2013. The bunker is where Medal of Honor recipient Marine Corps 1st Lt. Alexander Bonnyman Jr. died in combat November 22, 1943. Working at the invitation of each host nation, U.S. Navy forces are joined by non-governmental organizations and regional partners that include Australia, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and New Zealand to improve maritime security, conduct humanitarian assistance and strengthen disaster-response preparedness.
