Civilian contractors fill and level a section of roadway at National Defense Area 2 near Fort Hancock, Texas, July 10, 2026. The work creates a stable surface for the emplacement of HESCO barriers supporting barrier reinforcement efforts along the U.S. southern border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
