Civilian contractors use a forklift to off-load HESCO barriers from a semi-truck at National Defense Area 2 near Fort Hancock, Texas, July 10, 2026. The barriers are staged for assembly and emplacement as construction efforts continue along the U.S. southern border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
