U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Kevin Wood, with the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, observes the terrain while inside a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in the Big Bend sector, Texas, during Operation Muleskinner Trailblazer III, June 30, 2026. Wood monitored critical aircraft systems as the helicopter moved to a designated site to conduct a sling load mission supporting U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) by delivering a telecommunication system to replace an inoperable mountain‑top weather station. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
