The last C-23 "Sherpa" in the Oklahoma Army National Guard inventory sits in side its hanger at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma City moments before a turn-in ceremony for the aircraft. The Oklahoma Army National Guard has operated the C-23 since 1996 and this aircraft and its Oklahoma crew deployed to Iraq three times between 2005 and 2009. The C-23 and its crews have been credited with saving countless Coalition Force lives in Iraq due to their ability to conduct short notice, close-in cargo drops in combat zones.
