A U.S. Marine presents the Medal of Honor while an award citation is being read during a Medal of Honor award ceremony at the White House, Washington, D.C., June 18, 2026. During the ceremony, U.S. President Donald J. Trump awarded the Medal of Honor to retired U.S. Marine Corps Maj. James Capers, U.S. Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery, and posthumously to Marine Corps Col. John Ripley. The presentations to Capers and Ripley were upgrades of previously awarded decorations for extraordinary heroism and conspicuous gallantry during the Vietnam War, while Dockery received the award for distinct actions during the war on terrorism.
