Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Sgt. 1st Class Yasuyuki Iwashita, left, and U.S. Army Sgt. Jeffrey Smith test the compatibility of JGSDF and U.S. field radios and antennas July 5, 2013, at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. U.S. and Japanese service members met to develop an emergency communications system to use in the event of a disaster. Smith was a retransmission team chief with the 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 2nd Armor Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
