Pvt. 1st Class Kemar Rodney is officially a United States citizen after a naturalization ceremony on June 5, 2026, at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services field office in South Portland. Rodney was one of four Maine National Guardsmen to officially become a United States citizen during this ceremony. Rodney already serves in the Maine Army National Guard, attached to the 488th Military Police Company. He said joining the military was on his bucket list, and explained why he chose the National Guard, “I chose Army Guard because I also have a family and I knew my decision would affect them, but I didn’t want to totally change our way of living.” Rodney is originally from Jamaica and has lived in several states, to include Maine, over the past four-years. On the civilian side, Rodney has his commercial driver's license and said, “The road to citizenship has been a long, long road; I am glad it's now in my rear view.”
