U.S. Paratroopers assigned to the 173rd Mobile Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) and 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) joined French and German counterparts, as well as veterans, civilians and reenactors during a tribute honoring two American nurses, Kenneth J. Moore and Robert E. Wright, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, for their service during World War II, Angoville-au-Plain, France, June 6, 2026. The Toccoa monument links the training of American paratroopers in Georgia, where the 501st PIR was formed, to their actions in Normandy with the 101st ABN after the D-Day landings.
