Sgt. Elizabeth Karkos of the Maine National Guard's Counterdrug Task Force helps an Auburn Middle School student navigate a confidence course at the Bog Brook Training Site in Gilead on May 21, 2026. More than 30 eighth graders from the middle school participated in outdoor leadership and character-building activities with the Task Force. Through group challenges focused on teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance, students built confidence, communication skills, and positive decision-making habits while learning about service and accountability. This event highlighted the partnership between Auburn Middle School and the Maine National Guard as part of a broader effort to support youth development and substance abuse prevention through experiential learning.
