U.S. Soldiers with the 1440th Firefighting Tactical Group, Michigan Army National Guard tread water as part of a modified Combat Water Survival Training (CWST) on Camp Grayling, Mich., May 29, 2026. The modified CWST verified the Soldiers ability to swim and tread water unassisted prior to participating in further water training scheduled during this year’s State Annual Training. Annual training is the two-week yearly training period conducted by all National Guard members to ensure mission-readiness by improving the skill level of Soldiers and Airmen with military duties.(U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt.
