Motor drive compressors that generate airflow through the Propulsion Wind Tunnel of what was then known as the Arnold Engineering Development Center are shown in this photo from 1957. Planning for PWT began in January 1950 when representatives from the aircraft propulsion industry met with the Air Force Research and Development Board on Facilities. The funding program for the facility was issued the following year.
