Capt. Dorian Santiago, the commander of A Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, briefs members of the 1st Armored Division staff on Dept. of War operations in support of U.S. Border Patrol at the U.S. Border Patrol Station in Douglas, Ariz., May 20, 2026. This orientation builds situational understanding for staff members as they prepare to assume responsibility for Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) operations. 1st Armored Division assumes command of JTF-SB at the end of May. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
