U.S. Border Patrol agents conduct orientation of the U.S. southern border for members of the 1st Armored Division staff near the U.S Border Patrol Station in Douglas, Ariz., May 20, 2026. U.S. Border Patrol agents discussed border incursion tactics, explained the geographical challenges of border enforcement for the sector and demonstrated how to use sign cutting to identify illicit traffic. This orientation builds situational understanding for staff members as they prepare to assume responsibility for Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) operations. 1st Armored Division assumes command of JTF-SB at the end of May. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
