U.S. Border Patrol agents conduct orientation of the terrain around the U.S. Customs and Border Protection point of entry on the U.S. southern border for members of the 1st Armored Division staff in Douglas, Ariz., May 20, 2026. U.S. Border Patrol agents discussed border incursion tactics, explaining the challenges of border enforcement around the point of entry and outlined their escalation of force procedures. This orientation builds situational understanding for staff members as they prepare to assume responsibility for Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) operations. 1st Armored Division assumes command of JTF-SB at the end of May. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
