A cadet from the United States Military Academy places an American flag at a headstone during Flags In at Arlington National Cemetery, May 21, 2026. Soldiers assigned to the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) conduct the annual Memorial Day tradition by placing more than 260,000 American flags throughout the cemetery to honor fallen service members, veterans, and their families. Flags In has been conducted annually since 1948, bringing together Soldiers and cadets in a shared act of remembrance and military tradition ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
