A reforestation crew member works to plant seedlings at the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort in California during a project in the Caldor Fire burn scar, May 12–13, 2026. Crews planted red fir, Jeffrey pine and western white pine along ski runs as part of an effort to establish a more resilient forest. Roughly 50,000 trees have been planted at the resort over the past two years, a small share of a broader project funded by American Forests and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation under the REPLANT Act.
