Pyramid Peak is visible from the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort in California during a reforestation project in the Caldor Fire burn scar, May 12–13, 2026. Personnel from Silhouette Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service and the Great Basin Institute gathered at the resort to plant red fir, Jeffrey pine and western white pine along ski runs to establish a more resilient forest. Roughly 50,000 trees have been planted at the resort over the past two years, a small share of a broader project funded by American Forests and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation under the REPLANT Act. Across the Eldorado National Forest, about 250,000 seedlings were planted this year. (Forest Service photo by Andrew Avitt)
