    Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island           

    Rct. James Miller, Platoon 1044, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, performs a drill movement designed to give the platoon proper alignment and spacing June 5, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Drillmasters, experts on the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies Manual, graded platoons on their attention to detail, bearing and overall performance. Miller, a 19-year-old native of Memphis, Tenn., is scheduled to graduate June 14, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
