U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Hayek, commander of 4th Air Support Operations Group, awards the Meritorious Service Medal to U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Fernando Ortega, the outgoing commander of the 13th Expeditionary Combat Weather Squadron (ECWS), during a change of command ceremony at Camp Kosciuszko, Poland, April 23, 2026. The 13th ECWS, out of Storck Barracks Airfield in Illesheim, Germany, provides command and control for the weather Airmen deployed to European nations or forward operating sites in support of the U.S. Army’s Regionally Allocated Forces. These Airmen provide integrated weather support V Corps units and U.S. Army airfields that carry out rotary winged and fixed wing operations.
