A bilingual sign displaying water safety statistics stands at the shoreline of J. Percy Priest Lake, April 17, 2024. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District installed 18 such signs in English and Spanish as part of a public safety initiative aimed at the Hispanic community. The sign highlights that of the 199 drownings that have occurred in the lake, 194 of the victims were not wearing a life jacket.
The Nashville District manages 284 recreation areas, supporting over 22.7 million visitors every year. From camping and hiking to boating and fishing, our public lands give visitors places to enjoy the outdoors across 4,600 miles of shoreline.
