KABUL, Afghanistan -- The U.S. Flag waves slightly in the breeze while candles, representing the 184 victims who perished at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when a hijacked passenger jet slammed into the structure, flicker in the background. In response to requests from around the world, on September 11, 2005, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District flew 76 U.S. flags, over its compound, once the home of the Iraqi Embassy, in commemoration of the terrorist attack and bearing witness to the sacrifices made to protect freedom during Operation Enduring Freedom.
