KABUL, Afghanistan -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District's John Patrick of Jackson, Ohio (left) and Mark Springer of Spokane, WA, lower the final American flag flown over the district's Qalaa House Compound on September 11, 2005. In response to requests from around the world, the district flew 76 U.S. flags over the compound, once the home of the Iraqi Embassy, in commemoration of the terrorist attack on the US September 11, 2001 and bearing witness to the sacrifices made to protect freedom during Operation Enduring Freedom.
