U.S. Army Soldiers with the electronic warfare platoon, 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), conduct screening operations for communication frequencies originating south of the southern border with the Terrestrial Layered System Manpack in Bear Valley near Nogales, Ariz., on Jan. 19, 2026. These service members used the information gathered to tip and cue U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents who interdicted and apprehended seven illegal aliens throughout this mission. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
