U.S. Army Sgt. Juan Leon with the electronic warfare platoon, 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), conducts an electromagnetic spectrum baseline assessment in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection zone near Nogales, Ariz., where the border wall ends, Jan. 19, 2026. This assessment helps monitor for illicit radio traffic originating south of the border in support of law enforcement partners. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
