U.S. Soldiers walk toward a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, all assigned to 3rd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), perform preflight checks before an exfiltration mission at Libby Army Airfield, Fort Huachuca, Ariz., April 2, 2026. The mission served to exfiltrate Soldiers conducting foot patrols along the southern barrier under JTF-SB, simultaneously providing additional manpower and resources to Customs and Border Protection personnel. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
