    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (April 2, 2026) Capt. Paul O’Brien, left, the outgoing commanding officer aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), and Capt. Santico Valenzuela, the oncoming commanding officer of Wasp, cut a decorated cake during a change of command ceremony held at Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 4, Virginia Beach, Va., April 2, 2026. O’Brien, the 28th commanding officer aboard Wasp, was relieved by Valenzuela in a traditional Navy change of command ceremony. Wasp is conducting a selected restricted availability while in BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair in preparation for a return to Naval Station Norfolk.
