U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Adriel Apter, a CH-47F Chinook instructor pilot with 3rd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), performs pre-flight checks before flying along the U.S.-Mexico border in the El Centro sector, Calif., March 18, 2026. The Chinook’s heavy-lift capability allows Joint Task Force-Southern Border to assist other units by transporting concertina wire and other equipment to locations along the border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
