(Feb. 26, 2026) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Irene Perez-Ruiz assigned to Navy Medicine and Readiness Training Command (NMRTC) Pensacola, is presented a Good Catch Award by Capt. Frank Axelsen, the commanding officer of NMRTC Pensacola, during an award ceremony at Naval Hospital Pensacola’s command theater on Feb. 27, 2026. Perez-Ruiz was awarded for identifying a documented Penicillin allergy while assisting a patient with transcribing a civilian emergency room (ER) visit into a Navy sick in quarters (SIQ) chit. Noticing the ER provider had prescribed Amoxicillin, Perez-Ruis verified the allergy and directed the patient to seek an appropriate alternative, ensuring the healthiness and readiness of the force and patients.
