    Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Maj. Gen. Toshikatsu Musha, commanding general of the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, observes members of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force conduct training in close air support with the supporting arms virtual trainer (SAVT) as part of Iron Fist 26 on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 23, 2026. The training was held with the aim to increase interoperability between U.S. and JGSDF personnel during close air support missions. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase operational integration and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
