U.S. Marines with Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct close air support training with the supporting arms virtual trainer (SAVT) during a bilateral training exercise between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force as part of Iron Fist 26 on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 23, 2026. The training was held with the aim to increase interoperability between U.S. and JGSDF personnel during close air support missions. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase operational integration and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
