U.S. Army Sgt. Angel Avila, a native of El Paso, Texas, assigned to the Soldier Recovery Unit at Fort Carson, Colorado, picks up a shot put before his first practice iteration March 4, 2026, at Omar Bradley Park, Fort Bliss, TX, during the 2026 Army Recovery Care Program’s Army Trials. About 80 wounded, ill and injured active-duty Soldiers and veterans are competing in the following adaptive sports: archery, cycling, field, indoor rowing, powerlifting, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby.
