A 26-2LA recovery team 3 member shovels soil into a bucket to be transferred to a sifting station in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Feb. 7, 2026. Units are typically excavated with the scientific recovery expert carefully monitoring the excavation results to determine how far to dig. The soil is then transferred to screening stations where team members sift to find potential bone and life-support equipment.
