Polish Reserve Capt. Karol Cierpica speaks to a reporter after an award ceremony honoring U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis at the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C., March 2, 2026. Ollis was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for acts of conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on Aug. 28, 2013. At that time, he was serving as an Infantryman with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division in Forward Operating Base Ghazni, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
