PICAYUNE STRAND, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2026) – Charlotte Roman, a South Florida Water Management District governing board member, speaks about the state’s dedication to Everglades restoration during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for three pump stations. Also in attendance was Alexis Lambert, secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The Picayune Strand Restoration Project is restoring more than 55,000 acres of land. Restoration benefits are being observed in rehydrated areas, including the reestablishment of native plant communities and the return of wildlife such as wood storks and the endangered Florida panther.
