U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Hunter J. Kuester, a combat photographer with 2nd Marine Division, pets a reindeer while participating in a cultural day in Kalix, Sweden, Jan. 18, 2026. The purpose of Winter Warfare Course is to train ground forces in a variety of cold-weather subjects, including skiing, how to use pulk sleds, develop winter fighting positions, camouflage and concealment, and several other areas that are vital in order to survive and operate in a cold-weather environment.
