    U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Christopher Walter, a transmissions chief with 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, carries sticks while building a patrol base in Kalix, Sweden, Jan. 12, 2026. The purpose of Winter Warfare Course is to train ground forces in a variety of cold-weather subjects, including skiing, how to use pulk sleds, develop winter fighting positions, camouflage and concealment, and several other areas that are vital in order to survive and operate in a cold-weather environment.
