Sections of the many lakes located around in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
have seen a decline in their wild rice populations. Populations have dwindled due to
habitat loss, degraded water quality, and other environmental factors. The Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Wetlands Team is working with tribal collaborators to understand and improve wild rice (Manoomin) productivity. (U.S. Army Photo by Brigida I. Sanchez)
