The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, right-center, and U.S. Army Maj. Gen. David Gardner, left-center, commanding general of Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), discuss the Yuma National Defense Area signage emplacement mission during a tour of the southern border barrier in Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 17, 2025. Gen. Smith conducted a site visit of Marine forces deployed to the southern border under JTF-SB to observe their operational integration with JTF-SB Soldiers and U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), as well as engage with Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and USBP Agents.
