U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlos Ruiz, sergeant major of the Marine Corps, welds a prefabricated bracket during a tour of the southern border barrier in Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 17, 2025. Sgt. Maj. Ruiz conducted a site visit with the 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, of Marine forces deployed to the southern border under JTF-SB to observe their operational integration with JTF-SB Soldiers and U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), as well as engage with Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and USBP Agents. JTF-SB executes full-scale, agile, and all-domain operations in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to protect the territorial integrity of the United States and achieve 100% operational control of the southern border.
